Amazon expands same-day service for perishable groceries, intensifying battle with Instacart
Since this summer, Amazon has expanded the fresh grocery selection available for same-day delivery by more than 30%, including offerings from Whole Foods Market and Amazon Grocery, the company’s new private brand, which now includes over 1,000 items, with most priced under $5.
Shares of online grocery delivery platform Instacart (NASDAQ:CART) fell 6.6% in the afternoon session after Amazon expanded its same-day grocery delivery service and a critical report surfaced about the company's pricing practices.
Instacart’s inclusion in the minimum pay standard law would shed light on the situation by requiring the company to submit monthly aggregate data to DCWP. The city would then know how many workers are sent out on deliveries each month, although the data does not specify what type of vehicle a worker uses.
